Hej!

Before I say anything else, allow me to apologise if the following post is inappropriate. After reading through your "Joining" section, I fear I was unable to discern where it is that I am supposed to go in-order to submit myself for review and possible induction as a trial member of your lovely kinship. I am aware that there is to be a questionnaire, in two parts, and I will gladly fill that out, if you are at all willing to direct me to it.

So, the character that I wish to inter is Anduiron. I am still working on a lot of his information, but I have made sure that none of what I have established so far will contradict the lore or expectation of Loth-i-Lonnath or Tolkien's writings. In-game, I have decided to play him as a High Elf Captain. I enjoy the superior animation of the High Elves, and was glad to note that you still accept them in your kinship. However, do not fear. Anduiron, himself, is no High Elf. He is very much a Teler Elf of the Third Age, and he is actually quite young even for that, having been born in the last years of the Watchful Peace. I am still hoping that you will accept a Captain as a member of the Mithdirith, as that is the branch of LiL that I am hoping to install him in. Given that Captains can still play as front-line fighters, with heavy armour, shields, and swords/spears, I do not see his class as being a problem, but I understand if it is and would very much appreciate it if you would let me know if that is the case.

Presently, in-game, the character is level 33. I plan to cap him at 115, and I plan also to level his crafting to the highest tier. I know the kinship is primarily a role-playing kinship, but I also want to be able to help any lower-level members enjoy the non-role-play aspects of LotRO, be it crafting or leveling or just summoning them to hard-to-reach places via the Captains-only summoning horns.

As for role-play, I have been doing that for many years now. I actually started when I came to the Laurelin server 8 years ago and, though I have only just returned to the game after two years' hiatus, I have not stopped role-playing since. I feel that I am a decent writer, capable of playing engaging characters without resorting to stereotypical or otherwise too-epic characters. You will find no "the orcs killed my parents, so I vowed revenge"-type role-play with me, nor will you find me taking my Elf for a stroll through Bree. As for length, my posts are generally at least a paragraph long, however I can adjust to whatever my partner(s) is/are preferring of. If you want eight paragraphs per emote, I will oblige. If you desire only one sentence, I will (admittedly reluctantly) oblige. I want to fit into your story, as its depth simply awes me. I've always admired Tolkien's elves, but never felt as though enough of their culture was portrayed in the books or in the movies. I am hoping to become more familiar with it as Anduiron interacts with and grows alongside your own characters!

Now, presently, I, Anduiron's player, am busied with finishing high-school, my first year of college, and a new job that I will start at the end of the month. I want to be up-front about that, as I am aware you have a quota for which members must show each week. I can still meet that quota, and mean to, I just might not be as frequent outside of the weekly event. Nonetheless, I will give you my all, in terms of effort, and you shall not be disappointed if you decide that you will have me.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Greetings Anduiron,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed correspondence.

At this time, recruitment is suspended until I am able to more fully engage in the kinship due to RL reasons. Right now I am on leave from the game and it appears that when the leader is on leave, everyone else goes on leave too. But let me go ahead and address a few points. We do accept High Elves as an in-game race provided they follow the same IC race rules as you noticed, but we do not accept Captains for the Mithdirith for the same reason we don't except Loremasters. Pets. In fact historically, we've not recruited Captains at all due to the fact that the Elf race didn't have it as an option. The new High Elf race presents a complication in doing so. Pets are often a distraction in RP and a finely dressed lined up Mithdirith regiment with Captain pets and Loremaster pets just wouldn't look right. The question of recruiting Captains at all has not yet been presented to me and frankly, I'd like to keep it the way we've had it. No Captains... however, if you show up to events with good RP and fit all the other requirements we might make an exception for general membership, but we'll not put a captain in the Mithdirith. So if this is something you really wanted for the character, you might reconsider the class. As per our membership guide, Mithdirith are Wardens, Guardians, Champions, and Hunters. Furthermore, training into the Mithdirith is required. You must be a full member first for a period of time and work your way into the Mithdirith.

With regard to your background, we are glad to hear you are not the stereotype (That amused me). Level is never an issue with us. So don't feel rushed to level up. As for RP text, it's not the length, it's the quality of what is written. Often several paragraphs of text to read for an emote can be too much to read. Being descriptive but succinct works far better because everyone around you will have time to read it and respond in a reasonable time. We're not writing a novel, we're RPing. Sometimes all that is needed is a brief emote about what you're doing. Other times, a few sentences are also appropriate if you really want to add a bit of flavour. Moreover, I'll add that telling us what you're thinking in an emote really isn't needed either. I wouldn't know what you're thinking, so writing a full lengthy paragraph on your thoughts doesn't really give me anything to RP to. I can't acknowledge it. I wouldn't know what you're thinking. If you're the type of person that really enjoys writing, I would suggest you use the RP and Emote texts as a foundation for creative writing later. I do this. I have a chat tab that is ONLY /say and /emotes so that I am focused on pure RP. I can then later use that text in creative writing and add more colour to it. Just remember to not to write something about another person's character, that didn't happen. Always consult with the player(s) you're including before making significant changes and especially before posting your story anywhere.

Thanks for letting us know your RL situation with school and work. While it is true we have a process in trial membership for attendance, it's been designed to be flexible enough for some situations. One is only required to attend 4 events in 2 months. However, we do take all things into consideration. Quality of RP, attitude, attendance, IC and OOC behavior, are all factors. Since you mentioned high school, it should be noted that we prefer those 18 years of age or older. It sounds like there's a good possibility that you're 17 or 18. So be aware that this is a kinship of older players, and sometimes our OOC kinchat may reflect that. Maturity isn't always a factor of age though. I've met players of age of 13 who were better behaved and more mature than some 40 year olds. Your age, if you're 17 to 13, shouldn't be an issue for us as long as you are mature and behave accordingly. Every once in a while a member here may make some off colour OOC chat as well, but we try to keep it a good American PG13 or British A12 rating. Speaking of countries, be aware that we are a European kinship and keep mainly European hours. It sounds like you're in America which means that our more active hours are going to be in the middle of your day or early afternoon.

As I mentioned above, I am presently away from the game, thus membership recruiting is on hold, however, if I happen to be online and I see you, I'll contact you. I keep odd hours online so it could be anytime. =)

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. My apologies for catching us in a slightly less active phase, but we'll be back. Loth-i-Lonnath always comes back.

Oh, I am sorry to hear that! Nonetheless, I am more than willing to wait until you are returned to a more active state.

As for the Captain's pet, I am, of course, willing to accept that as reason for barring. However, I would like to put forth that the Captain's pets are not something I would use during any actual role-play, ever. I have even heard that they are not very useful during in-game group content, much contrasting the Lore-Master's pets, which are very much something the Lore-Master cannot live without. They are mainly for solo content, and even there they can get in the way. If you still would prefer to not permit Anduiron within the Mithdirith based upon this, I understand and would still be interested in playing as a Thamas Lorn civilian. If the exception could be made, however, or if I could be given the opportunity to prove through a series of RP sessions that the pet would make no appearance, then I would be very much appreciative as I would love to contribute to the Mithdirith. Again, however, I would re-iterate, that I understand entirely if you must hold to principle and continue to disallow Captains as a class choice for the Mithdirith. The only reason that I am hesitant to simply re-make Anduiron as another class is due to the fact that I have enjoyed playing it thus far, and have already poured a substantial amount of LotRO points into it. It is not out of a desire to be difficult.

Anyways, regardless of your verdict in that, I am still very much interested in being a part of Loth-i-Lonnath. And, even if unable to play a more military member IC, I would still be willing to use the versatility of the Captain class (Healer/Tank/Buffer) to help kinnies with in-game content outside OOC.

Thank you, again, for your time and consideration. I shall take all of this information into account, especially regarding your own policy regarding IC posts.

I do completely understand your points as they are points that I have put thought into. It is easy enough not to summon the pet, just as it is with loremasters. However, in order to avoid future issues with future members on the topic of captains, I prefer to keep things as they are, especially with the Mithdirith. I know this puts you in a position of having to decide how to move forward with your present character, and it is completely up to you how you may want to proceed here. You could make a new character with a Mithdirith approved class specifically with the intent to train for the Mithdirith later. As for your present character, I'm willing to make an exception on a case by case basis for captains as general members (as long as pets aren't used during RP), but not for the Mithdirith.

Of course! Thank you for entertaining me and my silly questions. I really do appreciate it!

I will be giving a lot of thought towards what I want to do next, be it that I decide to simply play Anduiron as Gwaith-i-Lonnath or, admittedly possible, remake him as one of the accepted classes to train as a Nethvaed and potential member of the Mithdirith.

Swinging away from that for a moment, though I will return to it, I wanted to regard your thoughts on age and location and all that. I am 18, though only recently, and I am, indeed, from the U.S., both of which are surely reasons for concern. However, I assure you, I can maintain a friendly and professional attitude, and I will do my very best to ensure that I am available when it is required. It us perhaps a good thing you are less active at this point, for that reason, as that allows me time to make sure of my new work schedule, which will be decided in two weeks' time. If all appears to be well, I shall try to contact you or one of your officers in-order to move forward with recruitment, if they decide that they shall have me.

Now, out of curiosity, in the case that I do decide to re-make Anduiron, as I am presently weighing it against my spent LotRO points, may I ask how the duties of the classes differ? I presume Guardians and Wardens act as front-line fighters and whatnot, and Hunters as scouts, but what about Champions, who have no shield but are generally too heavy-girded to act as reconnaissance?

I apologise for my many questions, and I do appreciate you taking time out of your day to answer them all!

No worries on the questions. Questions are a good thing!

Thank you for your further clarification. I mentioned the factors on age purely because I wasn't sure how old you were. Being 18, I'm sure you'll do fine.

With regard to Mithdirith classes, we try to use what the game gives us as a base, so of course wardens with their spears and shields are used as front line soldiers.

Both champions and guardians go where needed depending on strategy. Guardians usually serve as 2nd line warriors and protectors of non-combatants, like healers, civilians, and so forth. Champions may also fill this roll, however, since their focus is more on damage, they are also used in line with wardens depending on the tactical need.

Hunters are, of course, used as archers. When not at war, they serve as scouts of the herth.

However, the position of scout is not exclusive to the hunter class. Being trained as a scout in the Mithdirith can be any of the 4 classes if the character wishes it, although it is most often hunters for obvious reasons. Being a scout gives the player RL flexibility if they need time away from the game.

Now, keep in mind I am speaking purely from a RP perspective. I'm certain real raiding will have different views on how to use the classes.

Of course! I only meant that I do not wish to pester you beyond what is necessary, as I am sure you are busy with more important, real-life things. I do appreciate that you are taking time out of your day to handle my questions and concerns.

This is something like what I imagined, but I wanted to be sure! I imagined Guardians and Wardens as something of a shield-wall grouping, with Hunters and Champions behind them in-order to pick off anyone that manages to break through, so I wasn't too far off, I don't think.

I do like the idea behind the scout. The flexibility in schedule is very appealing to me, for previously discussed reasons. If I managed to make it so far, I think I would like to try for that!

However, there is much that must be seen to before such a thing may come to pass, if indeed it ever does. Until then, thank you so much for your time, Hiril Lothoniel. I hope to be able to put myself forward for trial one day soon.

You're most welcome, Andurion. I look forward to meeting you in game when I am back more fully. In the meantime, if you have not read our section on joining, I highly recommend it. I've given links below to the most important parts of the website to review. It's required reading for the application process.

Thank you, again, so very much! I have read through these pages already, though I don't imagine it could do very much harm to read through them again, perhaps even more carefully, and so I shall do precisely that! I look forward to seeing you in-game! Namárië!
